Seismic upgrades and renovations to historic hall

The seismic renovation of the historic three-story Mathematics Department on the University of Oregon’s campus updated the building’s classrooms, administrative offices, and libraries, while adding new group study spaces and improving wayfinding throughout. Seismic upgrades included new full height CMU shear walls inside the building and structural retrofits to exterior walls and floor plates. Interiors were updated to include mathematical references in the floor patterns and ceiling.

The golden section represented in the ceiling lights, concentric circles used for wayfinding on the floor, and mathematical symbols built throughout the remodel remind students of the ever-present application of their field of study.
